Common Low-Cost Hobbies

Here are some hobbies that seem useful. Useless hobbies like “lying on the roof to watch stars” are not listed.

  • Programming, English, and mathematics skill combination: People say this is a hobby that can complement each other and achieve synergistic effects, and it’s useful.
  • Writing: Combined with programming, English, and mathematics above, this can be called the office worker skill package. However, from observation, it’s a skill that everyone wants but doesn’t want to spend energy on.
  • Gaming: Low cost, a cheap game costs less than 100 yuan, expensive ones cost 200 yuan. But you can play for a year.
  • Fitness: Can be achieved at low cost. The most expensive part is personal training sessions, followed by various supplements and gym memberships. Equipment you can buy yourself is relatively cheap.
  • Reading financial reports: The cost of membership fees, but if you can understand them, you can make money.
  • Analyzing macroeconomic policies: Buy memberships, then read by yourself. If you read well, you can make money. Commonly known as “keyboard warriors.”

You can see that these hobbies either benefit your health or provide money-making skills. So-called “hobbies and earning money without conflict.” But what does it really feel like to treat hobbies as a way to make money?

The Flip Side: High-Cost Hobbies

But useful:

  • Photography: Initial investment of 10,000 yuan, plus buying various lenses, cameras and other equipment, travel and park visit costs.
  • Film photography: Low initial investment, minimum 500 yuan can buy a decent camera, but the cost of film and development/scanning is relatively high, and it’s a linear cost.

Seemingly not very useful:

  • Racing: Sounds very expensive
  • Equestrian: Just horseback riding
  • Golf

The above types are not completely useless, but ordinary people can’t use them.
